Using Search Engine Optimization to Promote Your Business

You may have heard the term SEO before, but if you’re like the majority of the population, you don’t really know what it is or how important it is to your business. SEO, or search engine optimization, is the practice of using specific keywords in the right amounts and places to get your web page to place well in search engine.

You may have heard the term SEO before, but if you’re like the majority of the population, you don’t really know what it is or how important it is to your business. SEO, or search engine optimization, is the practice of using specific keywords in the right amounts and places to get your web page to place well in search engine.

SEO is important because without it, search engines like Google will not be able to understand what your website is all about, therefore making your page not show up when people search for the subjects your web page is about.

Although the rules of SEO are constantly changing, search engine optimization is not as hard as it may sound. You want to aim for 3% density; less than this will make search engines ignore it, but too much more and search engines will mark it as spam. A good rule of thumb is to use your keyword or keyword phrase once for every 100 words in your text.

Where you place the keywords is almost as important as what keywords you choose. The most important locations are in your title, first and last paragraph, and page URL. If the keyword is in your website title it’s even better.

What keywords should you use? If you have a local business, use keywords or phrases that local people would search for. For example, if you own a bakery in Houston Texas, your keyword could be “Houston Bakery”. If you have a business that has a wider spread of desired influence, the keywords you choose should be ones that are searched for the most often. You can get lists of the most searched phrases and words from various search engines. Use these list to pick keywords that are in high demand.

Search engine optimization can take some time to get used to and time for search engines to start noticing your website’s SEO content, but it is well worth it when a customer can see your website on the first page of their search. Our team of experts can help you learn how to use SEO, or write SEO rich content for your website.

Role of ON-PAGE in Search Engine Optimization

It is a technique of Search Engine Optimization that is directly related to the Structure and content of the website and acts as a helping hand in increasing the rank of a website in various search engines like Google, msn, yahoo etc.

FACTORS AFFECTING ON-PAGE SEO

Title Tag: - It is very important part of a webpage. It clutches visitor’s attention that is why it is needed to be related to the content. A title tag must be effective so that can be read by the reader. it must be as short as possible but applicatory to the content.Title tag is an area where title of a webpage is written which is used by various search engines to create links at the time of search.

Keyword Research Made Easy By Google Adwords Keyword Search Tool :-

Before you start to plan a microniche site or a blog, you need to think of a subject around which your website will be focused. Keywords are really important. They not only help you to rank your website on some of the major search engines but also give you ideas about the contents you want to publish on your website. You may hear people saying, keywords are not so important. The only thing important is good content and thats what your really need.
All I want to say is, good keywords and good contents are complement to each other. And for good keywords, you need to have well researched them. There are very many tools available our there in the market for keyword analysis. We are going to talk about google Adwords as keyword search tool. Why we would choose google Adwords? There are couple of reasons for that. First is, it is FREE. Second reason is… its data is authentic, coming right from Google and you can trust this data.
So lets dive in the Google Keyword Search Tool. Probably you have already used to this tool, does not matter if you have liked it or not, but it is the best keyword search tool available out there so far and it is free. It fetches its data from the Adwords and it makes use of the Google search frequency. Before you start using this tool, it is always advised to create an account with Google Adwords and sign in, otherwise you will have to enter captcha (a funny little text) everytime you do a search. Setting up an Adwords account is totally free and it is worth making an account there.
Some of the great features of the Google Keyword Search Tool
You can change your search from broad to exact match or phrase match volumes. This is really a great feature which you can use to decide, whether they keyword you are targeting is good for your or not. Exact match will show you how many people are making global and local monthly searches on the exact string you have entered.
This tool has many options to refine your search or have greater insight about your keyword. These options are hidden under “Sorted By Relevance” And “Columns” drop down menus.
Advanced Options and filters
Locations and language: This is very useful feature for the people who are doing international research. You can localize your settings and see the amount of traffic for that particular language or country. Future version may include states or regions as well. We keep our fingers crossed.

You can also choose “Show Ideas and Statics for ” to further drill down your search. This option provides you a choice to have a rough estimate of traffic coming from different devices such as desktop and laptop devices or mobile devices etc.
You can customize your search according to your preferences by applying desirable filters. This is sometimes very useful when we need to refine our search.
Include Exclude Terms
This allows us to include and exclude specific terms in our search string. For example if your search query is “food” and you have specified the term “thai” then it will list all the keywords which are having word food but thai. You can use this feature to narrow down your search criteria.

The category drop down menu is sometimes very useful especially when you are looking for a list of keywords from a specific niche. For example, if you are looking for healthy eating recipes, you might want to select the category ” Food and Groceries”.
“Only show ideas closely related to my search terms” is not checked by default. If you are dealingn with the search terms which are really really generic in nature and returning lots of unwanted keywords you might want to check this option. It will return all the keywords which contains your search string.
You can also save the search ideas or keywords. The saved items will last for the rest of the session. Ad group ideas is a new feature in the Google External Keyword Search Tool, but still in beta version. It can be very much useful for different keywords into niches. This is little bit confusing for the new users at first but once you understand the whole idea behind it, you will find it pretty useful feature.
Column Drop Down Menu Options
Competition shows the data collected from the adwords. More competition means you will have to compete with many more people in the same niche. They keyword is hot but if you are planning to go for PPC, you may have to pay more per click.
Global and Local monthly searches volumes shows the number of searched made per month both local and globally. Local by default is set to United States which can be changed in . Global search volumes shows the numbers of searches made across the glob by the people.
Local search trends is also very cool feature. It tells you the search trends from last 12 months. You can see the trends and decide if the keyword is hot 27 by 7 by 365 or if the keyword is seasonal.

Some Final Thoughts
There are few things you must need to understand. Search volume is just a suggestions. This does not necessarily means that these numbers are going to be precise, but they can give your fair bit of idea how the traffic trends are going.
Include/ Exclude terms or save ideas will last for the rest of the session. If you need to make a fresh research, you would like to delete saved data and start afresh.
As this tool is tied to Google Adwords and because this tool comes free of cost so it is apparent that google wants you to spend more money on it. It is basically designed for Adwords so you should be careful not to click on the items which say “add to account”. If you are relatively new to this tool, i strongly recommend you to open a separate account for research purpose.

Executing The Web, One Site at a Time – Our Approach To Building A Website
Nile Marketing

Online success just doesn’t happen, it is the result of the careful execution of a methodology or process.

Here is our basic approach:
1. Business Discovery
2. Plan a Strategy
3.  Design & Style
4. Development & Integration
5. Site Launch
6. Maintain and Marketing
This simple process can be modified to fit a smaller project by reducing the amount of effort spent on various steps. For example the “Discovery” process can involve just one simple phone call with the client to learn about their brand and goals or it can involve several all-day meetings. The “Strategy” process can involve a short document that addresses a holistic strategy or it can involve weeks of research into the target audiences, your competition and recommended communication channels. Each step in this process is flexible and can be modified to fit a target project budget and requirements.
When we estimate a project we try to get a good understanding of the project requirements and then estimate the number of hours required for the primary tasks required for each specific client:
  1. Discovery: We begin by listening, making sure that we understand the challenges and opportunities, audience, industry, brand, business and the websites goals.
  2. Strategy: Developing a strategy to reach the target audiences and drive conversions. Budget, schedule, team, sitemaps and wireframes.
  3. Interface Design: Integrating your brand and messaging. Design for all graphics and page layouts, may also include a separate design for mobile browsers or apps.
  4. Development & Integration: Hosting setup, database setup, application design and programming, testing, testing and more testing technical project management.  During this phase we often also integrate search-engine-friendly optimization plugins, apps and best practices.
  5. Site Launch: Enhance, edit, or update website as required.
  6. Site Maintenance and Marketing: Post-launch – determine a maintenance plan. Train client on CMS. A consistent and frequent marketing strategy should be an important part of your business website.  This can include social media marketing, on and off-page SEO, search engine marketing, content marketing, email marketing and site analytic reports.
Important Note: All of these tasks require some Project Management time. A project without a decent Project Manager is doomed to failure. The Project Manager is the primary point of contact with the client and our internal team. We have found that between 15% to 30% of a project budget and time ends up being project management hours.
Nile Marketing are not a cut and run web design firm. We know that crafting the perfect website takes time and a lot of effort. Whether you are seeking a small-scale promotional website, a large-scale interactive eCommerce website, or a full-blown enterprise-level website with robust content management, designing high-impact websites is our specialty.

The Ultimate SEO Checklist
Nile MarketingChecklists are awesome because they break down complex processes into understandable bite-sized chunks. Plus you get the added benefit of checking items off as you complete them, giving you that instant gratification boost. We recently came across this “Ultimate SEO Checklist,”  it covers the top 30 things you should consider when it comes to getting a site live and into the search index.  Feel free to check off items as you go along. Every check below = 1 point. You can rack up a maximum of 30 points, and the closer you are to 30… the BETTER!
Please note, not all of these factors may apply to your specific situation, if you have any questions give us a call.
  1. Have you created a new Google Account and Email address for your site?
  2. Have you installed Google Analytics?
  3. Have you installed Google Webmaster Tools?
  4. Have you installed Bing Webmaster Tools?
  5. Are you using WordPress? Have you installed Google Analytics for WordPress and SEO for WordPress?
  6. Have you checked Google Webmaster Tools for 404 / 500 errors, duplicate content, missing titles and other technical errors that Google has found?
  7. Have you used SEO Browser to find even more technical errors (the most common error people make are 302 redirects that should be 301 redirects)?
  8. Have you used Xenu to find any broken links you might have?
  9. Have you used Google’s Keyword Research Tool? Be sure to consider searcher intent and difficulty, pick 1 keyword per page, and you’ll generally want to start with lower-volume keywords first.
  10. Have you looked at competitor link profiles? This way you can see what kind of anchor text they’re using, as well as how and where they’ve been getting their links. Input competitor domains at Link DiagnosisOpen Site ExplorerAhrefsMajestic SEO and LipperHey
  11. Have you incorporated your primary keyword (or something close) into your page URL?
  12. Are all of your title tags 70 characters or less? Title tags over 70 will be truncated in results.
  13. Are all of your meta description tags 156 characters or less? Meta description tags over 156 will be truncated in results.
  14. Have you used only one H1 tag? Is it before any (H2, H3, H4…) tags? Is your keyword in the tag?
  15. Do you have a healthy amount of search engine-accessible text on your site? My recommendation is at least 100 words, because you want to give search engines an opportunity to understand what the topic of your page is. You can still rank with less, and you don’t ever want to put unnecessary text on your site, but I recommend not creating a new page unless you have roughly 100 words worth of content.
  16. Did you use synonyms in your copy by using the “~keyword” advanced search operator? Remember: synonyms are great, and using natural language that’s influenced by keyword research (rather than just pure keywords) is highly encouraged!
  17. Do your images have descriptive ALT tags and filenames? Search engines “see” images by reading the ALT tag and looking at file names, among other factors. Try to be descriptive when you name your images. Don’t overdo it! Being spammy about this can trigger an over-optimization penalty.
  18. Are you linking to your internal pages in an SEO-friendly way? Are you describing the page your linking to in the anchor text, so that both users and search engines understand what it’s about? I recommend not using anchor text in your global nav because it can look like over-optimization. Stick to in-content links instead.
  19. Have you started off-page optimization and began building links? This is the hardest, most important aspect of SEO!
  20. Have you made sure your site isn’t creating any duplicate content? Utilize 301 redirects, canonical tags or use Google Webmaster Tools to fix any dupicate content that might be indexing and penalizing your site.
  21. Are you using absolute URLs in your code? Some CMS platforms give you the option. Use absolute URLs instead of relative ones.
  22. Have you checked your site speed with Google Page Speed Tools?
  23. Have you created an XML sitemap and submitted it to Google and Bing Webmaster Tools? Use XML-Sitemaps.com or the Google XML Sitemaps WordPress Plugin.
  24. Have you created a Robots.txt file and submitted it in Google and Bing Webmaster Tools?
  25. Is your site mobile friendly? Have you checked it on multiple browsers with BrowserStack?
  26. Have you setup social media accounts on FacebookTwitterLinkedIn and Google+?
  27. Have you added Authorship Markup to your site?
  28. Have you used the MetaFever’s SEO On-Page Optimization Report to double-check everything once you’re live?
  29. Have you reviewed all of the free SEO tools at your disposal before completing this audit? If you don’t understand some of the high-level concepts (don’t worry, it can be tough!)
  30. Have you claimed your business / website username on other major networks for reputation management reasons? Not only do you want to make sure no one else gets your account name, but you can often “own” all the results on the first page of a search for your brand if you’re a new website or company. Here is the URL structure of some of the major networks (I’ve avoided linking directly to sign up pages because they keep changing):
